This John Hughes film is iconic for its comedic portrayal of how a sixteen-year-old girl acts as maturely as she can while dealing with her own angst that everyone has forgotten her birthday on account of her older sister's wedding. She mopes a bit, as you can expect, but handles it with a great deal of composure, considering that she's bombarded with embarrassment by foreign exchange students and geeky bus-dwellers, ousted from her own bedroom by her grandparents, and struck lovesick and dejected because of her school-girl crush on a dream beau who already has a girlfriend. This film falls below The Breakfast Club and Pretty in Pink on my ranked list of John Hughes / Molly Ringwald projects, but it's still fairly decent, fun, light, and fluffy, and, most importantly, highly entertaining. I'd recommend it.
