Death of a Poison Pen --- by --- M.C. Beaton. Nasty poison pen letters begin to circulate in the tiny northern Scottish of Lochdubh. The stolid burghers of the village attempt to ignore the letters until, finally, one of them is associated with a corpse. Indefatigable copper, Hamish Macbeth, sets out to solve the riddle of the murder when is his confronted with another body, this time an apparent suicide. With no dearth of suspects Hamish works with dedication to solve this case. Like all of Beaton’s novels this one moves gently across the page daring you to guess “who dun it”. I can imagine reading this novel with a glass of Scotch at your side on one those autumnal highland evening where the sun rises at 10:00 and sets at 2:00. The ideal setting.
