I found this very moving, although some of the boyhood incidents seemed a bit contrived for dramatic effect, which is OK, it is a movie. I had almost the exact experience with my dog when I was a boy. He & I had the freedom of Chesapeake Bay & roaming & shooting in the forest, but then High School was over, and off I went to 4 years in the Navy in those days of the Draft. When I came home after 4 years he was an old, old dog: he basically waited 4 years for me & died soon after I returned. I burned my old boat for his Viking funeral. When we are young and full of life we don't realize how much our dogs love us, how they depend on us, and how short their lives are. -Erik
