Being the sugar-coated personification of 13-year-old pertness and wide-eyed innocence, actress Hayley Mills played the dual role of identical twins, Susan and Sharon, with complete confidence. Wearing a truly awful looking "Prince Valiant"-style wig, Mills' dual-character portrayals soon became quite annoying, though, when the twins' conniving and meddling into their parents' private affairs began to take over. At this point matters became so outright insidious and downright calculating in nature that the twins could only be viewed, in my opinion, as being pint-sized monsters in sheep's clothing. For the most part The Parent Trap's story (a misguided mix of slapstick and sophistication) just didn't work very well. From my perspective (as a thinking adult), I quickly found the storyline to be far too contrived, far too short on laughs, and far too full of gaping plotholes to be worth any more than a dismal 2-star rating.
