This film, the Oscar winner for best documentary, follows the rescue of Jewish victims of Nazi concentration camps to the eventual founding of the nation of Israel. This is an excellent historical summary from the viewpoint of the Holocaust survivors, but it does not pretend to explain the opposition of the Arabs that were being kicked out of their homes where they had lived for many generations. This film is included in the eleven DVD collection titled “The Simon Wiesenthal Collection.”

This is a documentary originally released as a motion picture in 1997.
The film takes you on the journey to the Jewish promised land.
At the time, Palestine was occupied by Great Britain who tried to prevent the stream of refugees seeking freedom as the world stood by, seemingly indifferent.
The harrowing experiences of the Jews after WWII is told to the backdrop of Truman's White House, the foundation of the United Nations, the beginning of the Cold War and the aftermath of war-torn Europe.
And eventually the film guides you to the foundation of Israel after the Jews had been wandering for two thousands of years.
It is an amazing and mind-boggling historical tale.

The Long Way Home was recommended to me by my Rabbi. So glad I was able to see the history of the Jews from the biblical days of Israel to modern day Israel. This is a must see for everyone.
