This lyrical narrative explores the quiet of pond life, and places emphasis on taking the time to appreciate the beauty of the natural world.

The Cornell Lab of Ornithology has provided informative back matter about ducks and other birds mentioned in the story. I also really like the activity found in the back matter: How many other animals can you find in this book? Readers can revisit the story and search for animals such as white-tailed deer, the dragonfly, and an eastern gray squirrel.
