Long and disappointing. A show of hands for people who agree with me that Rose is super annoying.

The Star Wars franchise is being milked for all it is worth and then some. Non-existent story line, miserable acting and overall just painful to watch.

"Overall, I quite enjoyed The Last Jedi. Yes, there were some problems with it, but overall, I had a good time. The acting was good, the characters are still interesting, the new ones and the classic ones from the original trilogy. It was great to see certain characters deal with arcs that put them in a new place, physically, emotionally, spiritually that means a lot for them, hopefully in the third film..."

Perhaps due to my age my memory of the first Star War trilogy sticks. And all the more recent films from this franchise, including this one, simply pale by comparison, in story line, in acting, and in gadgets. And at 2.5 hrs this film is way too long.

This second installment of the sequel trilogy begins right after the final scene of the 2016 “The Force Awakens” and delivered another satisfying chapter as Rey continued her quest to find Jedi Grand Master Skywalker, confront Dark-Side-Adept Kylo Ren and settle in her grand role in the Resistance led by Leia Organa. The third film is planned for release in 2019.

Recap of the Star War franchise:
George Lucas productions--
Episode I, The phantom menace (1999)
Episode II, Attack of the clones (2002)
Episode III, Revenge of the Sith (2005)
Episode IV, A New Hope (1977)
Episode V, The Empire strikes back (1980)
Episode VI, Return of the Jedi (1983).
The Sequel Trilogy--
Episode VII, The Force Awakens (2015)
Episode VIII, The Last Jedi (2017)
Episode IX, To Be Named (2019)

Spoilers--do not read further until after you view this film. :)

TH got really angry about half an hour into this movie. His beef was that he expected something different; to which I replied "why are you so upset? What made you think this would be different, yes it is a rehashing of the Vader myth; what did you expect?!!!!?"

A decent film for what it is; I find it completely ironic that the last member of the old crew left alive has actually died. :( I believe that's why I spent so much time crying while watching--Carrie we'll miss your presence even more in the 3rd installment. Long live General Organa!!!

This wasn't as good as Force Awakens... as some people have said, it was quite boring.... and I didn't relate the last scene as saying "the force is everyone". I hope episode 9 gets back on course... the Force Awakens was so good so I know JJ can get it back on track. I'd still rent if you like the Star Wars franchise!

"Let the past die. Kill it if you have to. That’s the only way to become what you were meant to be." Kylo Ren to Rey, also Rian Johnson to Star Wars fans.

I don't want the main saga Star Wars films to endlessly rehash the original trilogy or endlessly trash the prequel trilogy. I want to feel the way I did in 1977: sitting down in a theater and experiencing something NEW. Johnson has deconstructed the old to make way for the new. I have no idea what's going to happen in Episode IX and I find that THRILLING.

This isn't as good as the force awakens, I'm sad to say. There isn't as much action, there's more character development and waiting around. There aren't many ground battles, or space battles. Luke is grumpy. Rey likes Kylo Ren, suddenly. It's altogether not as good as the other ones. It's still pretty good, but not as good as I would have hoped.

(It does have some pretty funny scenes, though.)

Again tons of quotes in IMDb already. This one somehow was quoted a bit off:
IMDb:
Rose Tico: We're going to win this war not by fighting what we hate, but saving what we love!

Film:
Rose Tico: I saved you... silly. That's how we're gonna win. Not fighting what we hate ... saving what we love.

Luke Skywalker: Reach Out and feel the force.
(Rey literally reaches out)
(Luke pulls out plant and brushes Rey's fingers)
Rey: I think I feel it!

Luke Skywalker: [to Rey] What do you know about the force?
Rey: It’s a power that Jedi have that lets them control people and…. make things float.
Luke Skywalker: Impressive. Every word in that sentence was wrong.

Luke Skywalker: [to R2-D2] . There's nothing you can say to change my mind.

Leia Organa: [R2-D2 plays Leia's message] General Kenobi, years ago you served my father during the Clone Wars...

Luke Skywalker: That was a cheap move!

Poe Dameron: This is Commander Poe Dameron of the Republic fleet, I have an urgent communique for General Hugs.

General Hux: This is General Hux of the First Order. The Republic is no more. Your fleet are Rebel scum and war criminals. Tell your precious princess there will be no terms, there will be no surrender...

Poe Dameron: Hi, I'm holding for General Hugs.

General Hux: This is Hux. You and your friends are doomed. We will wipe your filth from the galaxy.

Poe Dameron: Okay. I'll hold.

General Hux: Hello?

Poe Dameron: Hello? Yup, I'm still here.

General Hux: Can he hear me?

Poe Dameron: Hugs?

General Hux: [First Order monitor nods at Hux] He can?

Poe Dameron: With an 'H'? Skinny guy. Kinda pasty.

General Hux: I can hear you. Can you hear me?

Poe Dameron: Look, I can't hold forever. If you reach him, tell him Leia has an urgent message for him...

Captain Peavey: I believe he's tooling with you, sir.

Poe Dameron: ...about his mother.

Violence: Most of movie is decently tame, but one more violent scene where armored guards are killed by Rey & [SPOILER] Kylo. (One is lightsabered in the face.) [SPOILER] One main bad guy is cut in half. As usual in the sw universe, no blood.

Resistance forces, led by General Leia Organa, flee D'Qar when a First Order fleet arrives. Poe Dameron leads a costly counterattack that destroys a First Order dreadnought, but after the Resistance escapes to hyperspace, the First Order tracks them and attacks the Resistance convoy. Kylo Ren, Leia's son, hesitates to fire on the lead Resistance ship after sensing his mother's presence, but his TIE fighter wingmen destroy the bridge, incapacitating Leia. Disapproving of new leader Vice Admiral Holdo's passive strategy, Poe helps Finn, BB-8, and mechanic Rose Tico embark on a secret mission to disable the tracking device on the lead ship. Meanwhile, Rey arrives on Ahch-To with Chewbacca and R2-D2 aboard the Millennium Falcon to recruit Luke Skywalker to the Resistance. Disillusioned by his failure to train Kylo as a Jedi, and under self-imposed exile from the Force, Luke refuses to help and believes that the Jedi should become extinct. Unbeknownst to Luke, Rey and Kylo can communicate through the Force. As the rival Force users learn about each other, each has future visions of themselves as partners. R2-D2 persuades Luke to train Rey. After Kylo tells Rey what happened between him and Luke that caused him to choose the dark side of the Force, Luke confesses that he momentarily contemplated killing Kylo upon sensing that Supreme Leader Snoke was corrupting him, causing Kylo to destroy Luke's new Jedi Order in retaliation. Convinced that Kylo can be redeemed, Rey leaves Ahch-To to confront Kylo without Luke. Luke prepares to burn the Ahch-To Jedi temple and library, but hesitates. Yoda's ghost appears and destroys the temple by summoning a thunderstorm, and encourages Luke to learn from his failure. Holdo reveals her plan to discreetly evacuate the remaining Resistance members using small transports. Believing her actions cowardly and risky, Poe leads a mutiny. Finn, Rose, and BB-8 travel to the Canto Bight casino and acquire the help of the hacker DJ, who says he can help them disable the tracking device. They infiltrate Snoke's ship, but get captured by Captain Phasma. Meanwhile, Kylo brings Rey to Snoke, who claims that he facilitated the mental connection between her and Kylo as part of a plan to destroy Luke. Ordered to kill Rey, Kylo instead kills Snoke and, with Rey, defeats Snoke's guards. Rey believes that Kylo has returned to the light side of the Force, but he instead invites her to rule the galaxy with him, which she refuses. They use the Force to fight for possession of Anakin Skywalker's lightsaber, which splits in two. Leia recovers and stuns Poe, allowing the evacuation to begin. Holdo remains on the ship to mislead Snoke's fleet as the others flee to an abandoned Rebel Alliance base on Crait. Holdo sacrifices herself by ramming Snoke's fleet at lightspeed; Rey escapes in the chaos, while Kylo declares himself Supreme Leader. BB-8 frees Finn and Rose, who escape after defeating Phasma, and they join survivors on Crait. When the First Order arrives, Poe, Finn, and Rose attack with old speeders. Rey and Chewbacca draw the TIE fighters away with the Falcon, while Rose stops Finn from completing a suicide run against the enemy siege cannon, which penetrates the Resistance fortress. Luke appears and confronts the First Order to enable surviving Resistance members to escape. Kylo orders the First Order's forces to fire on Luke to no effect. He then engages Luke in a lightsaber duel; upon striking Luke, Kylo realizes he has been fighting a Force projection of him. Rey uses the Force to help the Resistance escape on the Falcon. Luke, exhausted, dies peacefully on Ahch-To. His death is sensed by Rey and Leia, but Leia tells surviving rebels that the Resistance has all it needs to rise again. At Canto Bight, one of the children who helped Finn and Rose escape grabs a broom with the Force and gazes into space.
