For those who have heard the name Thomas D`Arcy McGee but do not know much about the man or what he stood for, this book is an excellent remedy. Melding fact, fiction and history, the author also offers us a snapshot of Sir John A , Canada at the time of Confederation and what it must have felt like to live in Ottawa at that time. It`s an easy and enjoyable read.

A suspenseful story mixing fiction and fact. The story of the assassination of Thomas D'Arcy McGee plays out against the backdrop of Fenian radicals, the early years of a nation, and tensions between different cultures and classes. The author spins a well crafted tale that brings the past to life.

For any Canadian, young or old this is an excellent fictional view of life at the time of Confederation. Sir John A and D'Arcy McGee become flesh and blood. I would particularly recommend this novel to high school kids - it will make Canadian history even more interesting!
